Classes

Our first seminar, Introduction to Biodiesel will start the beginning of next year at CPCC! RSVP for the free opening seminar below.

About the Speakers

Dr. Terence Fagan, engineering instructor in the Engineering Technologies Department at CPCC will address the colleges interest and role in having the Introduction to BioDiesel Class.

Matthew Rudolph, Executive Director at Piedmont Biofuels Coop, will trace the history of this coop from formation to an industrial operation. Matthew is the brewmaster at the coop, and is very informed about the chemisty of brewing biodiesel. Matt is featured in one of the videos to be shown at the seminar and does consulting on new biodiesel reactors.

Andy McMahon is Curricula Coordinator at CCCC in Pittsboro. Prior to coming to CCCC he was responsible for bringing the biodiesel program to Guilford Tech where he had a continuous fifty person waiting list for the introductory class. After years of teaching the class as part of ConEd, this will be the first semester where the intro class is being taught as part of a two year degree program titled: Alternative Fuels Technology/Biodiesel. Andy will trace for us the history of the class and the beginning of the degree program.

Jason Wager is Community & Regional Planer with the Centralina Clean Fuels Coalition. He is a big supporter of the alternative fuels movement in our region and will speak to this regions need for biodiesel and its air quality benefits.

Grady Truett is Assistant Director of Transportation for Gaston County Public Schools. He has become somewhat of a local hero as he almost single-handedly started producing biodiesel from the school cafeterias waste cooking oil. Grady went from three 25 gallon reactors to a five hundred gallon system making a thousand gallons a day. He will speak about his reasons for starting biodiesel production and its relation to clean air in the school buses.

Randy Dellinger is co-owner and manager of Foothills Biofuels in Lenoir. He is currently producing a million gallons a year and as demand increases is capable of producing three million gallons per year. Randy was looking into photo voltaic technology at Appalaichan when he ran across someone brewing biodiesel. He began doing feasibity studies and looking for a location. A closed glue factory from the furniture industry was the perfect place . Randy will share his story with us.

Paul Knott is Curricula Coordinator for the NCCCS BioNetwork. His mission is to spread the teaching of alternative fuels technology throughout the community college system. He will be talking about the coming career possibilities in alternative energy and related fields.
