Work Day

The Egyptians have flown the coop. Yeah, that’s the code. We are finally ready to proceed with our pump installation at the north location.

I talked to George, el esteemed presidente, yesterday. There have been landlord issues, salvage operation issues and … well, I guess there’s no reason to air all of our issues, is there? But at the end of this month, the coast is clear.

So I’m calling it: work days on Friday, August 3rd and Saturday August 4th. We’ll have it on a weekday and a weekend day so that hopefully anyone who wants to participate can. If you can’t, no problem. Just come by and check out our handiwork anytime.

UPDATE

Work day has been rescheduled to Aug 10th to 11th, Friday through Saturday, both days from 8:00 AM until it gets too hot. The work site, AKA George’s place, is at 3800 Miranda Rd in Charlotte. Click here to get directions.

Hopefully Friday we can do some of the heavy work … we have to remove a fence, put the tank into place, rebuild a fence and build a kiosk over the pump and fence. Justin said he’ll be there and bring some help, Tom Sawyer-style.

Hard to say exactly how it will all go down, but on Saturday there will likely be a better variety of ways to contribute … we’ll have to get our information posted and decide how to protect it, etc.

If all goes well, we should be able to have a functioning tank and pump, with B99 in it, shortly after that date.

And by the way, I know that it has been frustrating working out some of the details these last months. If it makes you feel any better, the Piedmont folks took 18 months to get their first pumps installed. Granted, they were trailblazing on unexplored ground, but still, we didn’t get that serious about raising the funding, writing the grant, and hunting down location/landlord permission until October/November. We’re not doing that bad at all …

So let’s start at nine on Friday and Saturday and get this thing rolling. My jeep is crying out for bioD from a Metrolina pump!

P.S. George, can you post some directions or the address to your place? Thanks.

  1. Er, this is a bit awkward, but I just found out about a fairly heavy deadline I have to meet by the evening of August 6th. Which makes the dates I called out for the work day very difficult for me.

That being said, I called it and I’ll stick with it if it works for everyone else. Post some feedback folks—what weekend works best for you–the first or the second weekend in August?

    I’ll do either one……

  2. First weekend of August is better for me than the second. But I can probably make either.

  3. Neither weekends work for me I was anticipaint this weekend, the before the deadline not after. The second weekend is out of the question of me as I will be out of town. The coming weekend I can certainly be present however I will not be able to do anything due to a surgery I am having.

  4. All right, it looks like this weekend works better for everyone. I cannot be there Saturday…I can be there Thursday and Friday, though. So there it is—anyone who can be there is welcome to join! We’ll work Thursday through Saturday. I’m sure there will be some loose ends to tie up next week, but hopefully we’ll be ready to buy some fuel pretty quickly.

  5. Ouch! It’s like herding cats trying to find a day that several people can make work. George got a call and is having to scramble to deliver and store some feedstock stuff he’s been working on—so he can’t make it happen this weekend. I didn’t really feel like we can go over and start ripping down fences and digging post holes on his property without him there.

So the bottom line is: we are pushing back a week after all. We are installing the pump next weekend (Thurs-Sat, Aug 9th to 11th). And, come hell or high water, this date is firm!

  6. Somebody give me George’s address and I’ll update the post w/ driving directions.
